Life is a fascinating journey filled with so many different experiences. No two lives are the same. Each of us have different viewpoints, opinions, and ways of living. To live a wholesome, fulfilling life, many people turn to exploring other worldviews and ways of life. That’s what I want to do with this blog. I’m on an expedition of exploration, and I wish to take you along.
I’m George Ashton, a man in his late-thirties (or early-forties, however you look at it) living in the beautiful suburbs of Milton Keynes. I developed a passion for writing long after I had finished my education. It all started when I read some brilliant books on improving our lives. From world-famous motivational speakers to life coaches, I have explored a lot of written work. I then took action based on advice given by these super successful people—things like meditating every day; building simple, enjoyable habits; sitting with nature and exploring this big, beautiful world. It helped me develop a calm state of mind that allowed me to create a life I love. Believe me, I love the city life. Fast-paced and exciting, I have learnt a lot from it. But after a while, you start to crave the calmness. The silence. Taking a break from all the hustle-bustle can also be very healthy—for mind, body, and soul. That is why I spend half the year at my city job (which is managing properties and housing units), and the other half smack in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a thousand life-giving trees.
I like writing about everything under the sun! Look at some major categories here on the right and take your pick. My interests go from personal care to family to society to lifestyles and much more. I hope you find vast pickings here!
In this small section, I try to answer the questions I most commonly hear people ask. Of course, any answer I give you will be from my own perspective and experience, so feel free to take it if you think it resonates, or disregard it if it’s not your cup of tea.
Your lifestyle is a sum of your daily activities, habits, the food you eat, what you drink, how much you move, your work, stress levels, and everything that comes under the umbrella of your life (yes, including those late night parties). All that you do has an impact on different aspects of your health—some physical, some mental, and some both. Acquiring more bad habits such as smoking or drinking can affect your health in a negative way over time, while habits such as regular exercise and eating nutritious food can help avoid health problems now and in the future. So, in a nutshell, your choices determine your lifestyle, and your lifestyle determines your health.
I totally get it. It’s not easy to create a lifestyle that calls for a proper routine—eating only wholesome, home-cooked food at the right times of the day; making sure you exercise for at least 30 minutes a day every day; not overindulging in habits like smoking, drinking; avoiding oversleeping and overeating; all of this can be difficult. Especially with the stress that comes from both personal and professional pressures, we are usually always either ‘hustling’ or stressing out that we aren’t hustling enough. Well, let me tell you, that while a great career matters, it doesn’t matter as much as your health does. Do little things that can help you be healthy—spend more days out in the sun doing yoga or going on a run. Spend more money on fruits and veggies, and less on booze. It’s not too late to start now. Take baby steps; you don’t have to transform overnight.
Well, yes, I do own the home that me and my family (wife and kid) live in now. I am so glad I started saving up from my first job itself. I didn’t have a plan back then, but I still knew I should start saving up for any big expenses that may come up in the future. So, yes, if you are planning to buy a house, then you better start saving up, at least enough for a down payment on it. You can definitely get a mortgage from trusted lenders or banks, but you have to ensure that your credit score stays in good shape up until then. Other than that, you have to discuss things with your family and figure out where you’re going to live, what kind of house you want, etc.. Do your research and make the decision that’s best for you!
Although I’m no expert handyman, I try to get odd things around the house fixed. While I may not be able to get up on the roof and fix the shingles, I can definitely fix the leak sprouting from the kitchen sink, or get a new LED light for the porch and install it. I’m trying to learn some more DIY stuff, but it takes time. As for the decor, now that’s my wife’s domain and she does tend to do a lot of decor changes around the house from time to time. I would say, it may not be easy to get started if you’ve never done it before, but you can definitely do it! A little bit of learning (there’s loads of YouTube videos that help) and shopping around for DIY kits should do the job for starters. You should know exactly what you’re going to be fixing, or what you’ll be changing, before you get started though! I believe every homeowner has it in them to learn home repairs & decor if they put their mind to it.
